Local Economic Development

Local Economic Development (LED) is defined as a process through which different actors (government, private sector, non-government organizations, and communities) work together to achieve economic growth, sustainable development, and improved quality of life for local communities. It is an approach that strengthens the economic capacity of a local entity based on its unique potential.

We focus on the implementation of the National LED Strategy, including coordination of all activities related to the implementation of LED priorities at the local government level, capacity building measures, plus the development of relevant systems and mechanisms to ensure a smooth implementation of LED activities supported by LODA

LODA’s responsibilities include, among others, the following responsibilities under LED:

  1. Strategic Advice and Coordination of all LED projects, activities and priorities to Local governments;
  2. Ensure that the funded infrastructure projects have an important and sustainable economic impact;
  3. Build capacities of decentralised entities’ staffs to equip them with necessary skills for quality implementation of LED projects and activities;
  4. Coordinate Government’s local economic development activities in decentralised entities for timely and quality implementation;
  5. Serve as the secretariat of the LED Technical Working Group.
