MUSANZE FOOD COURT TO BOOST TOURISM, ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT

  News

MUSANZE - A modern Food Court/Park was constructed in Musanze District as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen local economic development, promote tourism, and improve the quality of urban services in Rwanda's leading secondary city.

Implemented by the Local Administrative Entities Development Agency (LODA) and Musanze District with support from Region de Bruxelles-Capitale, the project represents an investment of Frw 1,499,383,835 and is expected to significantly transform the hospitality and tourism landscape of Musanze.

As the gateway to Volcanoes National Park, Musanze welcomes thousands of domestic and international visitors every year. Despite its growing importance as a tourism, business, and conference destination, the city has lacked a centralized, modern, and hygienic space where residents and visitors can enjoy diverse food services and leisure activities.

The Musanze Food Court/Park seeks to address this gap by establishing a modern public facility that combines quality food services, recreation, culture, and tourism in one destination.

The project will comprise between 20 and 30 standardized food outlets, shared dining areas, landscaped green spaces, recreational facilities, cultural performance areas, parking facilities, and modern public amenities, including sanitation facilities, wastewater management systems, high-speed Wi-Fi, and digital visitor services.

Beyond enhancing the city's attractiveness, the project is expected to generate substantial socio-economic benefits. During construction, approximately 400 temporary jobs are expected to be created, while at least 60 permanent employment opportunities will emerge once the facility becomes operational.

The Food Court/Park will also create new opportunities for local entrepreneurs, farmers, youth, and women by providing a structured environment for businesses linked to the tourism and hospitality value chain.

The facility is expected to receive around 250 visitors every day and directly or indirectly benefit more than 1,000 people through increased economic opportunities and improved urban services.

The project will further contribute to promoting local cuisine and culture through dedicated spaces for food festivals, cultural performances, artisan exhibitions, and community events, strengthening Musanze's position as one of Rwanda's premier tourism and economic hubs.

The Musanze Food Court/Park aligns with the Musanze District Development Strategy, Rwanda's National Strategy for Transformation (NST2), and Vision 2050, while supporting sustainable urban development and inclusive local economic growth.
